Hello, girlies, i hope you are fine today, here the sun shine a lot, There are even butterflies, bees and wasps, it is almost spring.

I was so glad I could be outdoors without my sweater, just with my t-shirt... And I loooove my city during spring (not so much in winter, it's too cold, and in summer...well, it depends, but in general it's too hot), and the smell of it...waw!

So I went to my drama school, and we studied the impact of the way we move and of our back (there was a lot of touching so I was a little uncomfortable, but it passed). Then I met a friend and we talked Stargate for an hour and I bought an Hellboy Bubblehead figurine (you know, like the dogs with their wrobbling head that used to stand in the back of some cars) which I'm very proud of.

Oh, and they voted the closure of my university for one more week. It's been almost a month since I've been in class, and I don't know what to think anymore (I'm against the new laws, but I don't want to fail my exams so...)

this morning, I talked with a canadian member on the community "save the coffee boy" and I tell him that I was to shy to comment because I fell insecure of my english. So I want to improve it.

What can I do? I already read fanfiction (for the english of course not for the porn ) and I watch film and tv show in original version. My dvd of merlin and TW season 2 are the english version, so I read the english subtitles and that help me.


I was thinking to translate my fics, maybe a little every day. Do you think it's a good idea. I will have no very much time this day but I can found moment to translate maybe 100/200 word and post here ?

You have the basics, the only thing to do is to hear as much english as possible. If you feel insecure with your grammar, every student in English I know (and that includes me) finds the S. Berland-Delephine's "Grammaire Anglaise de l'Etudiant" very well-done and helpful, with a lot of excercises. It might look a little dull but if you want to improve your english it's a must-have. (Sorry for the advertising, I'm not touching any money with that book, promise!)

That's already a good start! and you can continue to read regularly, but it need time to progress (and you to see it).

Translation can be a good thing but be careful not to translate your sentences word after word. Try to have the whole idea of what you want to say first

Once I translate a english fics in french and if I had translate word to word it was just very bad, so I try to adapt, and make sentences which means the same thing.
It's the same in the other way.

Yeah, I can understand that, I love grammar because I want to be a teacher, but I can understand we are only a few to find it utterly fascinating.

Try to write something and have english-speaking people correct it and explain to you why they corrected it. Learn from your mistakes. When you watch a movie, don't just watch the original version, put on the english subtiles, you will remember more if you hear and read at the same time. Try to "think" in english, not just to translate your thoughts in french.

That's weird at first but now sometimes thinking in english comes so easily

when I was 16 , I was so shy, write sex fics but now it's fun, it's difficult to no doint the same thing all the time, so I try diffenrent way, very sexy, or romantic , blood sex

Porn is less shocking in English because they have plenty of subtle vocabulary. Even rude words sound less rude in English... Maybe because English is more casual?
I don't know, I feel that in French, we're taught to watch our language: even on tv shows, the French dialogues are never coarse ("CSA" 's influence?) so it feels more outrageous when vulgarity slips out.

But anyway, itsuki, to improve your English, watching/listening/reading to English is helpful. Writing in English is great, if you know someone who can correct your mistakes (There are lots of beta readers communities on Livejournal, if it can help). Though, translating your French fanfics into English can be tricky: you chooses this French word because it sounds good, it doesn't mean that, once translated, even if it's a correct and good translation, the fanfic will keep the same atmosphere. See what I mean ?

I feel exactly the same for english/french rude word. the sound of the word seen less ugly in english.

The the translation I'm ok with you, finaly it's really fun to think and write in english. I make a lot of mistake but it's less difficult that I was thinking
